in progress of reading the latest Harry Potter book. I'm not going to make any spoilerific comments, don't worry, but I will say this: If I ever meet J.K. Rowling, I'm going to have to give her a big hug and a big sloppy wet kiss to thank her for her service to humanity. Woot!

Trying not to spoil but if you haven't read Potter avoid anyways
Huh? It's probably because I tend to hang out in forums dedicated to a certain character (I bet you can guess what fanbase Rowlings managed to piss off and no it's not the character who died), but I read either confusion or some people wanting to return the book.I actually like it despite that character being my favorite and I like that it is leaving a lot of things in question (including that character). It really is a good setup for the last book. Though I personally am hoping the last book proves that I should still have faith in my fav. character.
She already killed my second favorite (though I'm sure my favorite is going to die one way or the other).

just finished it last night, but people who haven't yet might read this. Suffice to say that I think Rowling is doing an excellent job of subverting the minds of millions of children world-wide. Thinly veiled political commentary wrapped up in a set of kids' books that adults like to pretend aren't really kids' books...it's beautiful. :)July 18 2005, 20:25:14 UTC 6 years ago
Re: Trying not to spoil but if you haven't read Potter avoid anyways
My thoughts on what you speak of, btw, (SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER, NOBODY READ THIS COMMENT ANY FURTHER IF YOU DON'T WANT SPOILERS), is that it's basically the same theme that the original star wars movie had. Obi-Wan has just been struck down by Darth Vader, it's the end of the second movie and everyone's all sad and depressed, but in the end Luke will convince Darth Vader to redeem himself, slaying the Emperor, but probably killing himself in the process.S'just my take on it :) Not hard to map the H.P. characters over to the S.W. characters.

Re: Trying not to spoil but if you haven't read Potter avoid anyways
I think the character is either good or bad. I don't think he's going to be convinced to be good if he is bad. I do think if he is good it will be the being killed in the process though. Though if he's bad he will die too. He's just a doomed character either way (unfortunately).I do think you're right in the Obi-wan comparison though. I think he knew it was going to happen.
